A
Tradition of Excellence
South has a long tradition of academic excellence
and a strong extracurricular program. Additionally, the community
participates actively with South to provide an exemplary education
for our children. The South Science Olympiad team has participated
in the Science Olympiad Competition since it was introduced
in the state nineteen years ago, and the South team has qualified
for the state competition all nineteen years and for the national
competition eighteen years. South also has an excellent math
team, and the basketball, cross country, and track teams have
qualified for state competitions. South's comprehensive speech
and drama program includes opportunities for students to perform
in plays and musicals and participate in interscholastic speech
competitions. South also has a very active community service
group called the "Caring Cardinals." Moreover, the
PTA sponsors a Reflections program encouraging our students'
writing and fine arts interests.
Before and After South
South students come primarily from three elementary
schools, Dryden, Windsor and Westgate. South Middle School
graduates attend Township
High School District 214's Prospect High School or Rolling
Meadows High School.
The middle school philosophy/The
middle school curriculum
The middle school philosophy and the academic
programs offered at South Middle School are explained in What
is a middle school?
A New Facility
District 25 constructed a new South Middle
School just south of the old building, and the school family
moved into a brand-new facility during the summer of 1997.
After-school program
After-school care for South students is available
through the JAZ
(Junior Activity Zone) program, which is run by the Arlington
Heights Park District.
