Do You Know What "KPC" Means?

It is internet lingo for “Keep Parents Clueless.” Cook County Assistant States Attorney, Kathleen Muldoon, who works in the Sex Crimes Division and is the head of Illinois Crimes Against Children (ICAC), spoke to our parents about how to keep our children safe on the internet and within the community. Investigator, Joe Pinnello, who coordinates the Sex Offender Registration for the Village of Arlington Heights, explained how the Police Department registers sex offenders who reside in the village.

Kathleen Muldoon, provided several helpful strategies for parents:

*Keep the home computer within a common area of the home, not a bedroom.
*Limit the time on the computer
*Use a screen name that is not gender specific
*Talk to your child about the dangers of sharing personal information on the computer.
*Monitor your child’s cell phone activity
*Once a picture or other information is posted on the internet, it will be there permanently for others to use
*Do not respond to mean, offensive e-mail
*Remember people on-line may or MAY NOT be who they say they are

Do you know what PAW means?  It is internet lingo for “Parents Are Watching.”  Learn more on how you can protect your family.  There are several on-line resources for parents to use to further learn about how to keep your children safe, including:
