Arlington Heights Council of PTAs
The Arlington Heights Council ot PTAs is a group of PTA units in District 25 organized under the authority of the Illinois PTA. The purpose of the council is for conference, leadership training, and coordination of the efforts of our member units.
Unlike the local unit, State PTA, and National PTA, who seek individual memberships, a council is composed of its member units only. Each member unit is represented by four delegates: two council representatives who participate in council votes in accordance with their PTA's instruction, unless authorized by their unit to use their own judgment; and the principal and the PTA president who have uninstructed votes.
The voting body of the council consists of the above four people representing each unit plus the five council officers, council chairmen, and the District 25 Superintendent.
Our council serves as a coordinator of PTA information from State and National PTA programs and projects to the local units. We provide a School of Information, the PTA Information Course, and Advanced PTA Course. Council chairmen plan meetings with their unit counterparts to exchange ideas, activities, and projects. Our council tries to strengthen each local unit, develop leaders, undertake community projects, work with school administrators, and advise and assist where needed. For our council to be successful in this endeavor, the units must actively particpate in meetings, projects, and courses at the council level and be willing to share their experiences with others.
Objectives of PTA
- To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship.
- To raise the standards of home life.
- To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
- To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
- To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.
