Warning:
They get stuck
in your head
(which is the reason I make them :)
Have you ever noticed that artists make objects look the
way they would feel if you could touch them? They can draw
an elephant with dry cracked skin, a bear that looks soft
and furry, or an alligator with a lumpy bumpy back. This is
called Visual Texture! Click the monster
to hear the song about it!
Value drawing is an art technique that makes flat things
look 3-D. You can turn a circle into a sphere with value
drawing by shading in the the shadowy spots and keeping the
light spots white. Click the sphere to here about
Value Drawing.
Pattern repeats. It re-re-re-re-repeats.
You can make line, shape, or color patterns. The song is
full of repetition...and so it pattern! Click the fancy
patterned cat to hear about pattern.
When you only use one color to paint a painting it is
called Monochromatic. To make contrast in
your monochromatic painting, you may add white for tints
and black for shades.

Don't worry about it...just try your best.
Good craftsmanship in the artroom might mean keeping your
artwork neat and clean, putting the paint just where you
want it, and touching up all your mistakes. Recently I
asked Mr. Craftsman about how he keeps his ship so clean.
Click Mr. Craftsman's ship below to here the interview.
A contour line drawing looks a bit like an outline with
some inside information. There is no shading or value
added. It is just a detailed drawing of the edges of the
shapes. Click the American Gothic contour line drawing to
here the song!
What is a contour line?
It's a camel hair raising song.
