Honoring Veterans

Veteran’s Day - At Westgate School we would like to thank our veterans for bravely serving and protecting our freedom. This year we created a video of all the military personnel connected to the Westgate community.  Thank you to everyone sending in pictures of your loved ones.

Many classrooms had their own touching and unique tributes to our military. Here are some of the ways our classrooms honored our troops on Veteran’s Day:

  • Mayor Hayes met with students and they learned how AH supports veterans
  • Lieutenant Colonel Garrison Corwin spoke to our 3rd thru 4th grade classes in the Commons about his experience about being a veteran for the United States Marine Corps. Lieutenant Colonel Corwin served the military for 29  years and served our nation in four major wars.
  • Ellerbrook came in to talk about joining the military and many other veteran "surprise guests" visited classrooms
  • Skyped with Mrs. Danley’s daughter who is currently serving in the military in Texas
  • Shared Veteran’s Day related songs and an Armed Forces Medley on YouTube in music class
  • Wrote letters to veterans and sent them to Operation Gratitude
  • Read books and magazine articles about Veterans’ Day
  • Assembled flags to celebrate our patriotism
  • Created “thank you” video messages using the green screen for families to share with family members who are veterans using iMovie.

Once again, thank you to all veterans for your service and sacrifices. We are forever grateful --- today and always!
