Vision and Hearing Screenings

School nurses conduct vision and hearing screenings annually as mandated by the Illinois School Code. Hearing screenings are completed annually for early childhood students, students in grades K, 1, 2, 3, students receiving special education services, transfer students, or any student referred by an educational team member. Vision screenings are performed annually for early childhood students, students in grades K, 2, 8, students receiving special education services, transfer students, or those referred by an educational team member. The school nurse will notify you if your child does not pass a vision or hearing screening.

MAP Testing

Kindergartners and first and fifth-graders will take the math MAP test on September 17th, and second, third, and fourth-graders will take it on September 19th. Please try to have students in attendance on those days.

Drill Schedule

We are required to conduct various types of drills throughout the school year, including evacuation drills, shelter-in-place drills, and lockdown drills. Drills continue this week.

We are GB T-Shirts

We will wear our green We are GB t-shirts as a whole school on the third Thursday of each month. Each student was given a t-shirt when they started Greenbrier. Our first We Are GB t-shirt day is September 19th.

Halloween

We would like Halloween to be fun for all, so we require costumes that portray non-violent characters. Please remember that we are an early childhood through fifth-grade elementary school. Costumes that may be appropriate for older children or adults may frighten younger children. We are requesting your cooperation in selecting school-appropriate costumes that avoid violence, sharp objects, weapons, “squirting or dripping” blood, gore, etc. Please consider selecting a costume that reflects an upbeat, positive theme. We want to model positive examples of caring, respect, and responsibility. In the interest of safety, please be sure your child is able to walk and sit comfortably in his/her costume and is able to see where he/she is walking (masks sometimes obstruct a child's view).
