Please remind your children of our Zoom expectations.

    • Students must use their name in order to be admitted to classes, do not use an alternative name.
    • Students must completely log out of any video streamed lesson after the teacher has ended the class.
    • Students are expected to be visible in video conferences unless students have made other arrangements with their teacher. They should communicate with their teacher if their connection is unstable.
    • Students should keep their microphones muted at appropriate times. They may use the hand-raising and chat features to ask to speak.
    • Students are expected to present an appearance that does not disrupt the educational process or interfere with the maintenance of a positive teaching/learning climate.

We made it through the first week of school, and it was amazing! Thank you to the teachers who put in long hours and hard work to make this such a great experience for our students! Thank you, parents, for your patience and your support. We could not have done it without you. Finally, thank you to our students who tried new things, were patient when things didn't go as planned, and for bringing your smiles! I love those smiles!! There will continue to be bumps in the road as we move forward, but I have every confidence that we will get better every day. WE ARE GB!!

    Reboot to Refresh!
Video conferencing takes a tremendous amount of resources for computers. Our District Tech department recommends that you encourage your children to restart their devices at least once a day, during an off period, or each morning/evening. This helps to reset the computer usage and make it available for the next set of tasks. You can also improve performance by limiting the number of tabs and windows open at the same time as they are constantly reloading in the background. These steps can help reset and hopefully improve the experience each day.

    • Chromebooks
To turn off your Chromebook completely, try one of these options:
    • At the bottom right, select the time. Select Power.
    • At the bottom right, select the time. Select Sign out and then Shut down.
    • Press and hold the Power key for 3 seconds.
    • Press and hold the Power button until you see a menu to Power off or Sign out
    • iPads
To Power Down Your iPad press and hold the On/Off/Sleep button at the upper-right corner of the iPad. Slide the bar to Power off.

    Reporting an Absence

Please report absences to the office and not the classroom teacher via the website, https://www.sd25.org/Page/1451,  or phone, (847) 398-4272.

    Dear Greenbrier K-5 Families,

We hope that you are safe and well!  Below is the schedule for you to pick up your students' materials and school supplies if you ordered them through the PTA. It will be a drive-thru with families remaining in their cars at all times. You must be in a car, you can not walk up.

    August 28 - 8:45-9:30 Kindergarten

    August 28 - 9:30-10:30 1st Grade

    August 28 - 10:30-11:30 2nd Grade

    August 28 - 12:30-1:30 5th Grade

    August 28 - 1:30-2:30 4th Grade

    August 28 - 2:30-3:30 3rd Grade

We are having you come by grade levels so that your child’s teacher can be outside to greet you and your child when you pick up the materials. If you have more than one child and would like to pick up all materials at the same time, please email me at dbingaman@sd25.org and let me know which time you will be coming. Please note that only the teachers of the assigned grade level will be at the pick-up.  Materials for about 30-65 students will be exchanged during each shift, so we ask for your patience if you find yourself having to wait a while in the car line.  If you can not come at your assigned time, please email me at dbingaman@sd25.org and we will make alternative plans.

    DIRECTIONS - *PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY*

      1. Pull up to the main entrance on Verde Dr.
      2. Remain in the car. A staff member will come to you near the entrance.
      3. Hold up a sheet of paper in the car window with your child(ren)’s name(s) in large, bold print. Please use a dark marker.
      4. There will be three stations. You will be directed to pull up to one of the stations.
      5. Pop your trunk. A staff member will put your child’s items in the trunk.
      6. Please remain in line. Follow the car in front of you out of the lot.
      7. There will be a list of the items in the bag. Please put the list in a safe place so that you know what needs to be returned to school when we move to in-person learning.

I am excited to see everyone and get this year started. It is going to be an adventure like no other!  Thank you for all of your support as we start the 2020-2021 school year.  We are GB!

    Take Care,

    Donna

    Dear Greenbrier Community,

We are here. We made it to the end of a really unusual year. Thank you all for coming to pick up your students' supplies over the last three days. It went very smoothly. Thank you to the amazing Greenbrier staff for helping to make it such an easy process. If you did not pick up your student's supplies, please email me at dbingaman@sd25.org and we can make arrangements for you to pick up the materials.

Please take a few minutes to check out our virtual Multicultural Fair. Click here to see the projects completed. I hope that next year we will be able to hold our traditional fair.

The Greenbrier office will be open until June 24th, but visits will be by appointment only. If you need to drop off or pick up anything, please email me to set up an appointment. After June 24th, we will be closed for the summer. We will reopen on July 30th.

The Greenbrier Reverse Parade is on June 5th from 10:00-11:00. I am so looking forward to seeing you all! Staff will line the streets on Verde and Roanoke in front of the school to wave to you and your children as you drive by.  Please start by driving west on Allegany. Turn left on Verde and then turn right onto Roanoke. In order to prevent a large backup of cars, we ask that you stagger your arrival times as follows:

    10:00 - Last name starts with A-D

    10:10 - Last name starts with E-K

    10:20 - Last name starts with L-P

    10:30 - Last name starts with Q-Z

So that you can help your students locate their teachers, we will be lined up in the following order: Office Staff, Special and Resource staff, 3rd -5th grade teachers, K-2nd grade teachers, and then our Early Childhood staff. Please do not stop to talk or hand anything to staff as we need to keep the line moving.

I wish you a wonderful and peaceful summer! My fingers are crossed that we will meet back at Greenbrier in August!

    Take Care,

    Donna

    Dear Greenbrier Community,

What a crazy year this has been! It has been full of learning but not in the way that we had planned. Thank you for all of your support and for sharing your children with us. They are amazing and so are you! I look forward to waving to you and your children as you pick up supplies and participate in our reverse parade.

Not all activities will be available. This week's activities are optional so there is no need to submit attendance. Please remember that teachers will not be available to answer questions as they will be participating in PD and helping with returning of materials.

    Dear Greenbrier Community,

It has been a very strange week. Every year during the last week of school, the hallways start to look bare as things are removed from the walls to be sent home. This year, it is happening already as teachers are packing up students' belongings and their rooms weeks before the end of the year. It brings an extra layer of sadness to this very unusual year.

I am however very excited to announce that we will all get to see each other one last time this year. Mark your calendar's for the Greenbrier Reverse Parade on June 5th from 10:00-11:00. Staff will line the streets on Verde and Roanoke in front of the school to wave to you and your children as you drive by. In order to prevent a large backup of cars, we ask that you stagger your arrival times as follows:

Happy Mother's Day! Thank you for all you do for your children. They are amazing people, and I miss seeing them and you! I hope that everyone got a chance to celebrate the moms in your lives in some way. Physical distancing has made that harder, but I am sure that you found a way to make the day special.

In some ways, it is hard to believe that it is already May and in others, it seems like April lasted forever. Please click the following link to access this week's Remote Learning Landing Page.

    Multicultural Fair

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our in-person Multicultural Fair this year due to the closing of schools. We however still want to give families a way to share their culture. Please see the flyer below about our Virtual Multicultural Fair.

    Teacher Appreciations Week

This is Teacher Appreciation Week. Unfortunately, we will not be able to celebrate in the usual ways. The Greenbrier staff is amazing! They are caring, thoughtful, and outstanding teachers that are always putting students first. During remote learning, they have gone above and beyond to connect with students and provide them with wonderful learning experiences. I am so grateful to be a part of this gatorific staff. Thank you for all you do!

    Office Hours - TUESDAY

I am in the office this week from 8 am - 12 pm on Tuesday. You can drop off or pick up any registration materials, or pick up printed packets or medications. Please email me if you are planning to come in, so we can ensure the physical distancing of visitors.

    Read Aloud

Tomorrow, I will start reading A Boy called BAT. The link to the videos can be found on the Remote Learning Landing page and on student's daily remote learning plans. With this book, Mrs. Palm has included some activities in her weekly plans that will tie into the book.

WTTW Announces New Educational Series: Stay Home. Hit Play.
In an effort to provide you with positive, non-legal coronavirus disease (COVID-19) news, we are delighted to share with you a new series launching on WTTW titled Stay Home. Hit Play.

WTTW is partnering with Mayor Lori Lightfoot to provide programming that will open the doors to the city’s museums and cultural institutions to students and families staying at home across the city, offering “virtual field trips” behind the scenes. In the first episode, Mayor Lightfoot heads to the Shedd Aquarium to visit the penguins, feed the sharks, and say hello to “Nickel,” the rescued sea turtle.

WTTW will air the series twice weekly on Fridays and Mondays, with the first episode on Friday, May 1 at 5:30 pm on WTTW (11.1) and on Monday, May 4 at 12:30 pm on WTTW Prime (11.2). WTTW will also stream all episodes on wttw.com/watch.

Franczek P.C. has the privilege of representing the City of Chicago and WTTW. It is our hope that this series provides a little joy in this otherwise uncertain and difficult time.

Even though we have been remote learning for more days than I care to count, some days will still be difficult for children, staff, and parents. Remember to take time for yourself and your children to feel sad, angry, and disappointed. This is a loss, and we are grieving. We are missing people and events that are important to us. I miss you all and long for the time that we can be together again. Please reach out if I can help you in any way.

    Stay Home, Save Lives,
    Donna
