    Valentine's Day

Valentine's parties are scheduled in K-5 classrooms for Wednesday, February 12. Early Childhood parties will be on either Tuesday, February 11 or Wednesday, February 12th. Just like our Halloween parties, we will not be serving any food or using food in any crafts or games. Instead, we will focus on games and activities. Room reps should double check with their classroom teachers to verify the start time. If your child is passing out Valentine's cards to other students, the cards cannot have any candy or food attached to them. Trinkets such as pencils, erasers, stickers, etc., are great alternatives as long as they are not edible. Items such as goodie bags filled with treats or candy are also not permitted. We greatly appreciate our room reps and all of our volunteers who organize and provide fun Valentine's experiences for our students.

PTA NOMINATIONS for next school year's officers!

It's already time to begin looking for next year's PTA officers. This is an important task because it sets the leadership for PTA in the coming year. PLEASE consider nominating those you feel would do a great job - including yourself! This year, the positions of President-Elect, Vice President, and Treasurer need to be filled. Sara Hess will step into the President's role and Kellee Janus will remain Secretary. You'll find job descriptions on the form - the executive committee really works together so workload is divided and very manageable. Giving just a little bit of your time makes such an incredible difference to our students. These positions help make sure great events like Back to School Night, Gator Rock, Movie Nights, etc. don't disappear.

Please respond by Friday, January 17th and feel free to contact Kristin Zanini, Nominating Committee Chair, at 847.975.8221 with any questions. Thank you!

Click here to fill out nominations form!

5Essesntials Student Survey - 4th and 5th Grade Students Only

A student survey will be administered at your child’s school called the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This is the eighth year the Illinois State Board of Education will implement this survey across the state. This survey is based on 20 years of research at the University of Chicago. It asks students about their experiences in school, giving school leaders critical student input to help develop school improvement plans.

Student participants will be required to log-in using their state student ID and birth date in order to complete the survey. Students’ identities will be completely confidential. Teachers or administrators will never see individual responses to survey questions and will only receive aggregated information, such as the total percentage of students who agree homework assignments help them learn the course material.

Please be aware that under the Protection of Pupil Rights Act. 20 U.S.C. Section 1232(c) (1) (A), you have the right to review a copy of the questions asked of your student(s). Survey questions can be found on the Illinois 5Essentials website (https://www.5-essentials.org/illinois).

If you do not want your son or daughter to participate, please click HERE to download the form. Fill out the information and ask your child to return this sheet to his or her teacher by January 15th.

While the playground is a fantastic place for kids to unwind and have fun, safety is our number one priority. Therefore, we wanted everyone to know that we will be removing the double swing and will have two individual swings installed. Our school is getting ready to kick-off KIDS HEART CHALLENGE!  This service-learning program from the American Heart Association (formerly Jump Rope For Heart) teaches your student how to care for their hearts both physically and emotionally and teaches the importance of giving back by raising lifesaving donations to fight the nation’s #1 killer, heart disease!

Before we kick off the Kids Heart Challenge at school on JANUARY 10, we encourage you to register with your student to take a challenge to stay healthy this year. The three challenges are:

    KHC1

You can register for the Kids Heart Challenge and take the challenge using this link: http://www2.heart.org/goto/greenbrier

ANY student who takes the KIDS HEART CHALLENGE online will earn a FREE wristband to wear proudly! Once your student collects a donation (optional) they will start earning their own Heart Heroes. ALL of our Heart Heroes (and the wristband!) will COME TO LIFE and share their heart healthy messages with your student! To bring characters to life you must use the FREE mobile app: Kids Heart Challenge

If that wasn’t exciting enough, we are offering a special incentive to students who start collecting donations early!

Students who collect $150 by our kickoff date, January 10 using their online fundraising page (or the KHC App!) will earn an exclusive Slow-Rising Heart Hero!

    KHC2

Here are four easy steps to get your student’s online fundraising page set up and start collecting lifesaving donations:

    1. Go to your school’s fundraising page: http://www2.heart.org/goto/greenbrier

    2. Click on the Sign-Up button

    3. Create a username and password and then fill out the registration form to take the challenge

    4. Share your personal fundraising link with friends and family right away.

AND/OR Download the FREE mobile app Kids Heart Challenge and register your student that way

Thank you for joining us as we challenge each other to keep our heart healthy and raise money for kids with special hearts.

Please remember to use Amazon Smile to help support our PTA!!

It's so easy to do and makes a big impact!

Go to www.amazon.com/smile and choose Greenbrier Arlington Heights PTA as your charity of choice

Always use Amazon Smile when checking out of Amazon- that's it!!

There is no app for Amazon Smile yet, so if using your phone, you can use the amazon app to shop and put items in your cart, but when actually going to check out, you just need to switch to a browser and log onto Amazon Smile.  Once you do it, it only takes seconds longer to do the next time!

    Tell your family & friends!!

    Community Assistance

We are often approached by different community groups offering support. Support includes a meal for Thanksgiving, winter coats for children and holiday presents. Many families struggle at different times in their lives. Please let us know if your family would benefit from some community support. Contact one of our social workers, Julie Silva, jsilva@sd25.org, 847-506-5566, or Nicole Miller, nmiller@sd25.org, 847-506-5542.

Please remember when picking up or dropping off your child in the car line to pull all the way up to the first cone or to the car in front of you. Stopping early slows down the line. Please also wait for the car in front of you to move forward. Do not jump out of line. You can review all procedures HERE.
