Below are answers to frequently asked questions about Greenbrier’s annual Halloween celebration.
When should my child wear his/her costume to school? (Wearing a costume is optional.)
Morning Kindergarten and Early Childhood students should wear their costumes to school. All other students wear their costumes after lunch. For first through fifth grade, please do not apply makeup to your child’s face before sending them to school in the morning.
When is the morning Early Childhood and Kindergarten parade?
Morning Early Childhood and Kindergarten parades begin at 9:30 a.m. They will start their parade by exiting door 8, walk to the blacktop and then parade across the blacktop to the front doors of the school.
Can my child go home for lunch to change into a costume?
Yes. We sent home a permission slip that should be returned to school by October 24th so we know which children will be leaving school that day.
12:10 pm lunch dismissal will be the same as after school, car line in the back and walkers will leave out the front. Please make sure your child knows what to do.
1:10 pm All students should return to school and use FRONT DOOR ONLY.
When is the lunch period?
The lunch/recess period is from 12:10 p.m. – 1:10 p.m. Zip lunch only, no hot lunch, will be the only lunch offered on Halloween: Cereal/Yogurt, Pizza Kit.
If my child stays at school for lunch can they change into a costume at school?
Yes. Following lunch and a recess break, the students will change into their costumes. Please label any bags that hold costumes to avoid confusion.
What is the parade route?
Morning Parade Route: At 9:30 a.m., the students will exit door 8, walk to the blacktop and parade to the front doors of the school. Parents are welcome to line up on the blacktop to watch the parade. Following the parade, students will return to their classrooms for Halloween activities.
P.M. Early Childhood Parade Route: At 1:10 p.m. students will exit door 8, walk to the blacktop and parade to the front doors of the school. Parents are welcome to line up on the blacktop to watch the parade. Following the parade, students will return to their classrooms for Halloween activities.
Afternoon Parade Route - At 1:30 p.m., the parade, led by Mrs. Bingaman and the front office, will leave the blacktop on the north side of Greenbrier and continue in front of the school, along Verde to Roanoke. We will proceed on Roanoke towards the Greenbrier School playground, over the blacktop and back to the front doors of the school. Following the parade, the students will return to their classrooms for special fun activities planned by teachers and PTA room representatives.
What if it rains on that day?
If it rains we will parade indoors. We will invite parents into the Commons and Gym to view the indoor parade.
We make every attempt to maintain an appropriate learning environment during morning instruction. Your cooperation will assist us in making October 31st a day for both learning and celebrating. We’ll see you at the parade!
Parent-Teacher Conferences are October 24th and 25th. Classroom Teachers look forward to this time with you to discuss your child’s progress and answer your questions. If your child receives support from other staff members, they will try to attend the conference however they may not be available. Please email them directly with questions or concerns in their area of expertise. We have closed the conference sign up. If you still need to schedule a conference or change one that is already scheduled. Please contact your child's teacher directly.
The heat is on in the building and the temperatures are comfortable inside. As our weather starts to get colder, please make sure to send your child with the appropriate outdoor clothing, as we will be taking the children outside for recess unless the temperature with wind chill is below zero.
Please check out the e-flyers in the above link to learn about additional programs that serve our students. There are wonderful activities and services available throughout Arlington Heights and neighboring communities.
