DISTRICT 25's CURRENT LEARNING PLAN FOR THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR
On July 15, 2021, the District 25 Board of Education passed the following motion which will guide the start of the upcoming school year:
Considering the excellent mitigation strategies we are skilled at implementing, and our District 25 data from June – July, the Board approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to:
- Open school fully with all pre-pandemic procedures and activities.
- Educate the community about the Illinois Department of Public Health's recommendation of masks for unvaccinated individuals, but
- communicate that mask wearing for students is at the parent’s discretion.
- communicate that mask wearing for adults is at the individual’s discretion.
- communicate that flexibility continues to be important in case the health department guidance changes.
- Provide for 3 foot distance where possible,
- Partner with the health department on contact tracing/quarantine procedures.
What this means for the upcoming (2021-2022) school year
The Illinois State Board of Education clarified mask guidance for school districts, saying Parents of students in all grades, vaccinated or unvaccinated, can individually determine if their child will wear a mask while on school grounds. This also means that the District 25 staff can individually determine if they will wear a mask. Masks are still required by all riders on school buses and in taxis. We also expect updated guidance soon on the mask requirements for indoor sports.
To help you make the decision that is best for your family and our community, it is important for us to share with you that the guidance for COVID-19 prevention in K-12 schools by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) says “masks should be worn indoors by all individuals (age 2 and older) who are not fully vaccinated.”
The Illinois State Board of Education clarified the guidance by adding the following:
"However, if school administrators decide to remove any of the prevention strategies for their school based on local conditions, they should remove them one at a time and monitor closely (with adequate testing through the school and/or community) for any increases in COVID-19 cases."

CLOSE CONTACT DISTANCING
Vaccinated people will not be considered close contacts. Contact tracing will still be required for unvaccinated people. When contact tracing, close contacts are now defined as being within 3-feet of a positive or probable case when inside. If both students are masked, they are not considered close contacts. This previously was defined as being within 6-feet of a positive or probable case even with masks.
The Illinois State Board of Education made a determination that a remote option must be offered for anyone who needs to quarantine. This includes both students who test positive for COVID-19 or unvaccinated students who are determined to be a close contact to students who tested positive for COVID-19. Details will be provided, but in general, if a student needs to quarantine they will join a remote teacher during their quarantine dates where they will continue to receive instruction in core learning standards.
